Setting up Avigilon Alta with Seam

Last updated: May 28, 2026

This guide walks through the steps required to connect your Avigilon Alta access control system to Seam and, if you plan to issue PIN codes, prepare your entries to accept them.

Connect your Avigilon Alta organization to Seam

  1. Prepare a user account with the right permissions

You will use the credentials of an Avigilon Alta user to connect your organization to Seam. That user must have the following:

    • Portal access enabled

    • Super Admin role assigned

To verify or update these settings, log in to your Avigilon Alta dashboard and open the user's profile.

  2. Connect your Avigilon Alta organization to Seam

Open a Seam Connect Webview and log in using the credentials for the user prepared in the previous step. This will link your Avigilon Alta organization to your Seam and make your entries available in Seam.

Set up entries for Seam

To prepare your Alta entries for management through Seam, complete these steps in your Avigilon Alta Control Center.

  1. Create a dedicated zone for each entry

Every entry you want to manage through Seam must have its own dedicated zone. This applies to all entries, regardless of whether they will use PIN codes. Shared zones across multiple entries are not supported. To create a zone:

    • Go to Sites > Zones.

    • Click + to create a new zone.

    • Name the zone after the entry it controls.

    • Assign exactly one entry to the zone.

  2. If using PIN Codes, confirm your readers support PIN entry

Only Avigilon Smart Keypad Readers can accept PINs at the door. The supported models are:

    • Standard Smart Keypad Reader (OP-RKP-STND)

    • Mullion Smart Keypad Reader (OP-RKP-MULL)

Standard Smart Readers, Mullion Smart Readers, Video Reader Pro, and Video Intercom Reader Pro do not have a keypad and cannot accept PIN entry.

  3. If using PIN Codes, configure an entry state that allows PIN to unlock

Each entry must be assigned an entry state that includes PIN as an allowed trigger method. Some Alta organizations have a default entry state (such as Convenience) that already includes PIN — if one applies to your setup, you can assign it under Sites > Entries. If you need to create or modify an entry state, please work with your installer to make sure it is set up correctly.
