Understanding Yale's Smart Lock Services

Last updated: January 19, 2026

Yale operates several distinct smart lock services depending on where your lock was purchased and what technology it uses. This guide explains each service and its compatibility with third-party integrations.

Yale Access or August (North America)

Yale Access and August are the same system — August is now part of Yale, and both use the same cloud platform. Yale Access serves locks purchased in the United States and Canada. If you use the Yale Access app or the August app to control your lock, this is your service.

  • Compatible lock models: Yale Assure Lock series, August Smart Locks

  • Technology: Cloud-based with Wi-Fi connectivity

  • Integration region: Select "North America" when connecting to third-party services

Yale Home (International)

Yale Home serves locks purchased outside North America, including Europe, UK, Middle East, Asia, and Australia. If you use the Yale Home app, this is your service.

  • Compatible lock models: Yale Linus, Yale Conexis, Yale Doorman, international Yale Assure locks

  • Technology: Cloud-based with Wi-Fi connectivity

  • Integration region: Select "Rest of the world" when connecting to third-party services

Incompatible Services

The following Yale services are not compatible with Seam:

Yale Secure — Popular in the United States, this service enables Apple HomeKit support for Yale locks. It uses local Bluetooth/HomeKit connectivity rather than cloud-based communication. However, you can make your lock compatible by swapping out the network module. See our guide: Making Your Yale Secure Lock Compatible with Seam.

Yale Connect — An older service primarily sold in Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, and other markets). Uses Z-Wave/ZigBee technology with a local Yale Connect Hub rather than cloud connectivity. You can identify this service by the Yale Connect app. Locks using this service would need to be upgraded to a newer Yale lock that supports Yale Access or Yale Home.

Why the right service matters

These are completely separate systems. Your lock will only work with the service that matches your purchase region, regardless of where you currently use the lock. When connecting to an integration, selecting the wrong region is the most common reason a lock doesn't appear after authorization.

Still having trouble?

If your lock isn't appearing after selecting the correct region, verify it's working properly in your Yale app, then contact support@seam.co for assistance.
