Understanding Salto KS Subscription Limits and User Capacity
Last updated: February 16, 2026
When integrating with Salto KS sites through Seam, you may encounter subscription limits that restrict the number of users that can be created on a site. This article explains what these limits are, how to identify when you're approaching them, and what steps to take when you hit capacity.
What Are Salto KS Subscription Limits?
Salto KS sites have subscription-based capacity limits that determine how many user accounts and access credentials can be created and maintained. These limits are tied to your Salto KS subscription tier and are enforced at the site level.
Important: Each access credential you create typically counts as one user toward your subscription limit.
This includes:
Access grants (time-bound access permissions)
Access codes (PIN codes for keypads)
Mobile keys (digital credentials in mobile apps)
Warning Signs: How to Know You're Approaching the Limit
You'll see this warning when approaching your limit:

Failed access creation: New access grants, codes, or mobile keys will fail to create
Service disruption: Guests or residents may be unable to receive access credentials
Integration errors: Your property management system may display errors
Solutions
1. Clean Up Inactive Users
Delete expired or unnecessary access credentials:
Past guests whose checkout dates have passed
Expired access grants or codes
Test or duplicate credentials
2. Upgrade Your Subscription
Contact Salto KS support to upgrade to a higher capacity tier.
3. Implement Automated Cleanup
Set up processes to automatically remove access credentials when no longer needed (e.g., after guest checkout).
4. Avoid Unnecessary Reconnections
Reconnecting your account won't increase capacity and may require manual reassignment of locks to units.
Best Practices
Monitor proactively: Track your active user count relative to your limit
Automate cleanup: Remove credentials automatically when access periods end
Plan ahead: Upgrade before hitting the limit, especially for high-turnover properties
