Yale Lock compatibility with Seam

Last updated: January 1, 2026

Overview

Seam supports Yale smart locks through two of Yale's cloud-based services: Yale Access (for North America) and Yale Home (for international markets).Additionally, Seam supports Yale locks with Z-Wave modules when connected through a compatible smart home hub like SmartThings.

Important: For Yale Assure Lock models, compatibility is determined by the network module installed in the lock, not just the lock model itself.

Compatible Yale Services

Yale Access (US/Canada)

Lock models:

  • Yale Assure Lock series (all variants sold in North America)

  • Yale Assure Lock 2 (North American version)

  • August Smart Locks (all models)

App: Yale Access app

Technology: Cloud-based system with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth + Wi-Fi Bridge connectivity

Network modules: North American Yale Assure Locks use these modules for Seam compatibility:

Note: Yale Assure Locks with the iM1 module (which use the Yale Secure app for Apple HomeKit) are not compatible with Seam.

Yale Home (International)

Lock models:

  • Yale Linus

  • Yale Conexis L1

  • Yale Conexis L2

  • Yale Doorman

  • Yale Assure Lock series (international versions)

  • Yale ENTR

App: Yale Home app

Technology: Cloud-based system with Wi-Fi or module connectivity

Network modules: International Yale Assure Locks use these modules:

Z-Wave Integration

Lock models:

  • Yale Assure Lock series with Z-Wave Plus module

  • Yale Assure Lock 2 with Z-Wave module

Technology: Z-Wave wireless protocol

Network modules:

Compatible through: SmartThings Z-Wave hub and other compatible Z-Wave smart home hubs

Note: Yale locks with Z-Wave modules are compatible with Seam when connected through a compatible smart home hub like SmartThings, not directly through Yale Access or Yale Home apps.

See this article for more info on using Z-Wave hubs with Seam.

Incompatible Yale Services

Yale Connect

Why it's incompatible: Yale Connect is an older service that uses Z-Wave/ZigBee technology with a local Yale Connect Hub. This system does not provide cloud API access, which Seam requires for integration.

Regions: Primarily sold in Latin America (Mexico, Colombia, etc.) and some other markets

App: Yale Connect app

What to do: If you have Yale Connect locks, you'll need to upgrade to newer Yale locks that support cloud connectivity (Yale Access or Yale Home) to use them with Seam.

Yale Secure (iM1 Module)

Why it's incompatible: Yale Assure Locks with the iM1 network module use the Yale Secure app and are designed exclusively for Apple HomeKit integration. These locks do not provide access through the Yale Access API that Seam requires.

App: Yale Secure app

What to do: If you have a Yale Assure Lock with an iM1 module, you would need to replace the module with a Wi-Fi Smart Module or Bluetooth module to use the lock with Seam through Yale Access.

How to Determine Which Yale Service Your Lock Uses

Check your App

The simplest way to identify which Yale service your lock model uses is to check which app controls your lock:

App

Compatible with Seam?

Yale Access app

Yes

Yale Home app

Yes

Yale Secure app

No

Yale Connect app

No

Check Your Lock's Network Module

For Yale Assure Lock models, the network module determines which service the lock uses:

Module

App

Compatible with Seam?

Wi-Fi Smart Module (Black)

Yale Access

Yes

Yale Home BLE module (White)

Yale Access or Yale Home

Yes

Z-Wave Plus Smart Module (Green)

Yes, but through a compatible Z-Wave hub

iM1 module (HomeKit) (Orange)

Yale Secure

No

The network module is typically installed inside the lock on the interior side of the door. You may need to remove the battery cover to see which module is installed.

Important: The same lock model (such as Yale Assure Lock SL) can use different services depending on which network module is installed. A Yale Assure Lock sold in North America with a Wi-Fi Smart Module uses Yale Access, while the same lock model sold internationally with a Yale Home BLE module uses Yale Home.

Understanding Lock Model Regions and Modules

Yale manufactures locks for different markets, and the key differentiator for Yale Assure Lock models is the network module:

The service your lock uses is determined by the network module installed, which corresponds to the market where the lock was purchased and configured.
